Congratulations to the Winners of Jeevika 2005!

The Centre for Civil Society is organizing Jeevika 2005, the annual South Asian Livelihood Documentary Festival from 20-28 January 2006, in New Delhi. This competitive festival is the first of its kind in South Asia.

  • Jeevika is a search of documentaries that focus on legal and regulatory restrictions, bureaucratic processes as well as social and cultural norms and religious practices that prevent or constrain people from earning an honest living in the vocation of their choice.
    The response to request for entries for Jeevika 2005 has been overwhelming. As against 60 entries last year, this year saw over 85 entries from students and professional film makers from various countries including India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh and Serbia. 34 of these entries are student productions.

    The Screening Committee short-listed 11 films in student and 10 in general category. The Jury selected the top 3 winners and the Best Student Film of these 21 films.

      The Awards

    • Monetary prizes:
      First:
      INR 45,000, Second: 30,000, Third: 20,000 & Best Student Film: 10,000

    • An art object exclusively designed and produced for Jeevika

    • Financial support to one or more of directors of the shortlisted entries for a future film project on a related issue of livelihood.  This will be based on strength of proposals submitted by the directors. 

    • CCS will also purchase multiple copies of the winning films for dissemination to educational institutions and development organisations. 

    The organizers of Jeevika: Livelihood Documentary Festival run the festival with the objective of documenting livelihood issues throughout the region and worldwide.  All the films entered here in the Festival will be part of Centre for Civil Society’s larger agenda called Law, Liberty and Livelihood Campaign.

     

    Beyond Jeevika

    • With the permission of the directors, CCS would like to screen select shortlisted films as part of the Law, Liberty and Livelihood Campaign in CCS seminars and at festivals in different parts of the country and South Asia. 

    • CCS may come in contract with the directors of shortlisted films for sale and distribution of their films.  CCS will help doing the same.

    • CCS would like to partner with other organizations to organize the Jeevika 2005 Festival in other States and cities of the region.  CCS would appreciate any such initiative by the directors and organizations.
